The rain had been falling for days. A relentless hammering on the windows served to remind you that now was not the time to go outside. Sometimes the wind would join in throwing heavy drops at the glass and howling in the night. Occasionally lightning would split the darkness. Mostly, it just rained.

Today the power went out. The rain felt colder and wetter in darkness only held back by a dwindling supply of candles.

The rain might fall for weeks or dwindle in the next few hours. There was no way to know for sure. At least the guesses from the radio were comforting. Under the endless outpouring from the sky, you were alone.
